WAZE - ANALYSIS (Final Draft)
According to the official Google support website, Waze is a free GPS navigation application that grants users, also known as Wazers, live updates on traffic, construction, speed cams, etc. Having more Wazers will improve the live updates as they are the ones who gather the data. Wazers can update others simply by having the application opened while driving. Other than the automated broadcast of traffic data, users can report or share traffic accidents or hazards which may hinder the travelling experience of the everyday commuter. This information shared with other Wazers in the area provides others with an opportunity to change their route. Also, a team of map editors is actively editing and ensuring the mapping of the app is up-to-date. Waze makes use of traffic data submitted by the users and the application will learn to pick out the quickest path to get to a particular destination. Moreover, the application enables users to share their journey with their friends. The purpose of this function allows users to know each other's arrival time and whereabouts. In addition, Waze has integration with other social media platforms. This allows users to tweet about their Waze activities and connect to Facebook to see which of their friends is using Waze and who is close by.
When compared with Google Maps, Waze’s navigation capabilities is superior. However, Google Maps offers a wider range of unique features which proves useful. Users should use both applications to have the best spectrum of features and functions.
Waze is the only mobile navigation application that relies on its social network to better receive traffic updates. With the live traffic updates, it automatically reroutes commuters away from traffic jams. It will perform better than Google Maps in a city with heavy traffic. In comparison, Google Maps usually keeps users on the main road rather than divert them to smaller roads even though the application knows there will be heavy traffic up ahead. Google Maps users have the option to reroute or remain status quo, rather than go through small roads just to be two minutes faster.
However, Google Maps provides not only driver navigation but multiple navigational transport options. According to the article “Google Maps vs. Waze”, Google Maps provides users with all sorts of navigation methods such as by driving, by biking, walking, and even using public transportation. It provides wider coverage which can attract a larger pool of users. Google Maps has a rich amount of functions, making it an excellent application. It has lane designation whereby it shows users which lane should they be on. It also lets users glance at traffic maps, public transit lines, satellite photos, and terrain maps. There is an explore function which allows users to view nearby restaurants, cafes, ATMs etc. Waze does not have any other features than those mentioned above.
In conclusion, Waze has an exceptional navigational system which heavily relies on its social network while Google Maps has a decent navigational system but has a wide spread of useful features. Users would gain full spectrum of functionality if they employ both applications for the various modes of transport.
